Publication Ethics

Mogadishu university journal is committed to publish original and valued work to the academic community in to the highest possible standards. We expect similar standards from our reviewers and authors. Honesty, innovation, fairness, objectivity and, confidentiality are among the critical values that enable us to achieve our aim. The journal fully performs in accordance with the guidelines and ethics established by institutional review board at Mogadishu University and Committee on publication ethics (COPE) guidelines on good publication practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EDITORS:

Accountability

  • The editor should follow the guideline and the policy of the journal.
  • The editor is responsible and accountable for deciding which articles submitted to the journal should be published, and everything published in the journal.

Fairness and Confidentiality

  • The editor should evaluate manuscripts without any kind of the discrimination (s).
  • The editor should ensure a fair and appropriate peer-review process.
  • The editor will not disclose any information about a manuscript under consideration to anyone other than the author(s), reviewers, and in some instances the editorial board members.

Conflict of interest

  • Editors should disclose relevant conflict of interest to their readers.
  • Sometimes editors may need to withdraw from the review and selection process for the relevant submission.

REVIEWER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Contribution to editorial decisions

  • Peer-review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and, through the editorial communication with the author, may also assist the author in improving the manuscript.

Promptness

  • If the invited reviewer feels unqualified to review the manuscript or knows that timely review will be impossible should directly inform the editor so that alternative reviewers can be contacted.

Confidentiality

  • The duty of confidentiality in the assessment of a manuscript must be maintained by expert reviewers, and this extends to reviewers’ colleagues who may be asked (with the editor’s permission) to give opinions on specific sections.
  • Reviewers and editors should not make any use of the data, arguments, or interpretations, unless they have the authors’ permission.
  • Reviewers should provide speedy, accurate, courteous, unbiased and justifiable reports.
  • If reviewers suspect misconduct, they should write in confidence to the editor

Acknowledgement of Sources

  • Reviewers should recognize relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
  • Reviewers should inform the editor any considerable similarity or overlap between the manuscript and any other published data of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

  • Any information or ideas found through peer review process must be reserved confidential and not used for personal benefit.
  • Reviewers should avoid conflicts of interest resulting from personal, commercial, political, academic or financial interests.

AUTHOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting Standards

  • Data should be represented accurately in the manuscript
  • The results should be presented precisely with  an objective discussion of its significance.
  • Articles should have sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work.
  • Duplication or falsified statements are considered unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Originality and Plagiarism

  • The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works.
  • If the authors have used work or words of others they have to state sources that have been appropriately cited or quoted.

Redundant Publication

  • Published studies do not need to be repeated unless further confirmation is required.
  • Previous publication of an abstract during the proceedings of meetings does not preclude subsequent submission for publication, but full disclosure should be made at the time of submission.
  • Re-publication of a paper in another language is acceptable, provided that there is full and prominent disclosure of its original source at the time of submission.

Authorship of a manuscript

  • Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study.
  • All authors who have made significant contributions are included in the author list of the manuscript and they agree to its submission for publication.
  • If there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be named in an Acknowledgement section.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

  • If the research work involves the use of human/animal subjects, ethical approval or exemption letter should be obtained from the Mogadishu university IRB (Institutional Review Board)

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

  • Authors must disclose all relationships or interests that could influence or bias the work. Although an author may not feel there are conflicts, disclosure of relationships and interests affords a more transparent process, leading to an accurate and objective assessment of the work.
  • All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental Errors in Published works

  • When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate with him to retract or correct the paper.
